My Reflection

MY REFLECTION
I had a lot of reservation when I heard that I had to do this course. One of the main reasons is because I am not too abreast with the use of technology.  At the first class I was introduce to all the course entails and the assignments that we would have to complete. This made me more worried as to what was required of me was very unfamiliar and just seems hard.
As the classes progress I was introduce to the different tools that I can use in my class to make it more interesting. The first thing we did was to create a PowerPoint on the philosophers of learning. Even though I had some knowledge as to how to create a PowerPoint, but there were some features available for me to use which I was not aware of. I also garnered information about the creation of a PowerPoint that I didn’t know about. Information such as: a single slide should not have more than six lines of information at a time and the presentation should be interactive and properly organize. I also learnt how to use hyperlinks which made the presentation much more interesting.
The next thing I was introduced to was the creation and the use of blog.  This was very enlightening to me and I found pretty cool. The instructor took us through step by step in the creation of our blogs. I learnt how to had pages and post. Additionally, we look at how to hyperlink videos and other website.
Web quest was the next venture. Of all this is the one I loved the most. I see how I can effective in cooperate it in my class right away. It is design for easy use. I believe the students will love using this and the teacher can use it as an extended activity for students to have further practice at home during their spare time.
In creating my wikia I had a lot of challenges. As a result I lost interest in it. I still went through and complete it because I had to for my course work. However, I doubt I will be using it further as I might encounter the same problems which will only get me flustered and frustration. Despite all of that it is still a good site to use as it allows students to make adjustments to what is posted and add their own work as well. This will make the students feel good about themselves, as their work/views will be published on the Internet.
This is where I got the biggest shock of all, the creation of my podcast. At first when I heard about podcast I thought that it had to be about video conferencing. My surprise came about after I have created a voice recording using audacity I was then told by my lecturer that, that is the podcast. Little did I know that podcast can be both visual and auditory. I will definitely be using this in my lessons. I will also introduce it to students for them to use in presentations that they will be doing for me.
The philosophy that I had to do for this course has really changed my view of the use of technology in the teaching and learning process. I did not only write it because I had to for my coursework but I will also apply it to my professional life starting the new school year.

At the end of the course I am truly appreciative that I was introduce to the course and have completed it. This will help me to perform by job better and to keep in line with the new requires form the Ministry of Education about the new curriculum which rest heavily of the integration of ICT.

My Philosophy

MY PHILOSOPHY
As an educator I see every child as a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. With this in mind I deem it as my desire to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, student centred, supportive and invites a sharing of ideas. In order to meet these important goals, I think it is important first to establish a mutually respectful, honest rapport with students, a relationship in which communication is of the highest priority.
As an educator it is critical to understand both the learning style of individual learners and the cultural diversity which they bring to the class. This will help to design and tailor meaningful instruction by implementing appropriate concrete strategies. Therefore, individualized instruction is an integral strategy to help children with different learning preferences. Accomplishing the need to meet individual challenges, I will plan lessons that are so structured into learning modalities by incorporating techniques that caters to the different types of learners in the classroom. Additionally, applying a variety of approaches to the learning process is equally important. The use of cooperative learning strategies, integration of technology, as well as guided individual instruction are all necessary to provide an environment where children will use self-discovery and a hands-on approach to learning.
I personally believe that technology enhances learning. It is one way that captures and maintains the students interest. With all that I have learnt in the course about webquest, wikia, podcast among other I will use in my class to make my lesson interactive and fun. I will seek permission for students to carry their laptops, ipods and/or cell phones to be used in my class to facilitate logging on to the different sites created.

PLEASE PAY KEEN ATTENTION TO THE VIDEO AS YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AT THE END.

ENJOY!!!!!

types of verbs

Verbs can consider to be one of the most important parts of speech. it plays a vital role in the construction of sentences.

What is a verb?

This is a word used to describe an action, state, or occurrence, and forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence, such as hearbecomehappen

TYPES OF VERBS
Action Verbs

Action verbs are words that express action (give, eat, walk, etc.) or possession (have, own, etc.).

Action verbs can be either transitive or intransitive.

Transitive Verbs

A transitive verb always has a noun that receives the action of the verb, called the direct object.

EXAMPLE: Laurissa raises her hand.

  • The verb is raises.
  • Her hand is the object receiving the verb’s action.

Therefore, raises is a transitive verb.

Transitive verbs sometimes have indirect objects, which name the object to whom or for whom the action was done.

EXAMPLE: Abdus gave Becky the pencil.

  • The verb is gave.
  • The direct object is the pencil. (What did he give? The pencil.)
  • The indirect object is Becky. (To whom did he give it? To Becky.)

Intransitive Verbs

An intransitive verb never has a direct or indirect object. Although an intransitive verb may be followed by an adverb or adverbial phrase, there is no object to receive its action.

EXAMPLE: Laurissa rises slowly from her seat.

  • The verb is rises.

  • The phrase, slowly from her seat, modifies the verb, but no object receives the action.
Linking Verbs

A linking verb connects the subject of a sentence to a noun or adjective that renames or describes the subject. This noun or adjective is called the subject complement.

EXAMPLE: Jason became a business major.

The verb, became, links the subject, Jason, to its complement, a business major.

Lisa is in love with Jason.

The verb, is, links the subject, Lisa, to the subject complement, in love with Jason (describing Lisa).

The most common linking verb is the verb to be in all of its forms (am, are, is, was, were, etc.).

NB: This verb may also be used as a helping verb. To become and to seem are always linking verbs.

Helping Verbs

Helping verbs are used before action or linking verbs to convey additional information regarding aspects of possibility (can, could, etc.) or time (was, did, has, etc.). The main verb with its accompanying helping verb is called a verb phrase.

EXAMPLES: Teju is (helping verb) going (main verb) to Florida.

The trip might (helping verb) be (main verb) dangerous.
